I pride myself in being an original writer with a focus on the positive. I often times believe we allow ourselves to be brainwashed by the negativity poured into our brains by the media, and my preference in being a writer is to 'brainwash' people with undying self love, positivity and confidence in ourselves and the world; to spread the word that the world is indeed a positive place.
I have a few ideas with an original and positive approach for your four desired articles:
1.) Healing cancer with love (vs. chemo) 2.) The Power of Positive thinking and the effect on cancer patients 3.) Psycho-synthesis and healing cancer 4.) Healing cancer with a spiritual focus

As a professional writer with articles on a variety of subjects under my belt, I have the professionalism, as well as the experience, to bring solid reporting, thoughtful perspective, and clear, concise writing to this project. Though I'm flexible, and therefore open to ideas or responses from the Knowcancer editors, I have come up with the following four article ideas:
1) The National Institute of Health's recent panel discussion on increasing Colorectal cancer screening. This article will provide a brief but thorough overview of the importance of screening, as well as screening statistics, and then go on to summarize the NIH's suggested ideas for increasing the rate of screenings.
2) The recent news about the importance of diet changes for life-long smokers in helping to reduce their increased cancer risks. The article would cover the dietary changes and supplements, such as leafy green vegetables and increased intake of certain vitamins that have recently proven to help protect former smokers from lung cancer.
3) The new treatment for pre-invasive breast cancer that is currently in trial phase. This article would briefly explain the treatment, and then compare it to current treatments for breast cancer, looking at angles such as side-effects and efficacy.
4) Alternative treatments for relieve of chemotherapy and radiation side-effects. This article would look at some of the alternative treatments currently gaining recognition from the medical community, such as acupuncture and medical marijuana, that help cancer patients cope with lack of appetite, nausea, pain, and other side-effects of treatment.
Each article, in addition to being a timely look at recent developments in cancer treatment and research, would specifically discuss the wider impact of these developments on the cancer community. For instance, the article on new treatments for breast cancer would not only explain the new options, it would look at the impact a successful trial could have on cancer treatment in general, and the changing view of treatment from the medical community.
In general, great strides have been made in cancer research, treatment and prevention in the last decade, and I know how difficult it can be to keep up with all the news on the subject. These articles would aim to explain four important developments, and their wider meaning for the community, including current patients, those in remission, readers with loved ones suffering from cancer, and those at risk due to genes, lifestyle, or environment.

BELOW IS A SAMPLE COPY I WROTE AND WAS PUBLISHED BY MY LOCAL DAILY NEWSPAPER:
PEACE HAS BECOME A LIFE-COSTING SHARE IN KIAMBAA CONSTITUENCY
Although the government has pledged to put Mungiki Sect at bay, it has finally been an issue of everyday talk in Banana, Ruaka, Line and the environs around to shout curses against the deployed police officers, who have come to disturb the peace of residents in the name of "peace restoration."
I am one of the victims who was arrested on 24th May, 2007, when I was going home together with my four job-colleagues. On 25th May, 2007, in the wee hours we were taken to Kiambu Courts and we were all charged with "Drug Abuse and Disorder" [otherwise called D/D]
For me, I did not take alcohol, neither did I smoke nor cause any sort of disturbance.
On that date common citizens were arrested with no conviction of any law offense.
Business people mostly close their businesses at 9-10p.m.And it is at this time when they were going home that they were arrested.
Police officers have used the challenge of lateness to arrest people in Banana and its environs but later charge them on false allegation of drunkenness.
The police and the "Red Barrett" [as they are called by people] are using the power of their crown, LAW and ORDER to rob, beat and arrest common citizens who do not give them bribes. Bribes are ranging from 100 shillings to 3000 shillings.
People in this areas have become dissatisfied by the Government’s trends to end tremendous murders feared to be caused by Mungiki Sect in the area. Instead of police officers arresting suspected Sect members, they are hunting the poor citizens, harassing them and taking them to court if they do not have bribes.
The Police Commissioner should act promptly on this betrayal against innocent citizens. Common citizens are suffering but no Mungiki Sect members are arrested. The current Karuri Police Force unit are robbing us money and phones in the name of peace keeping, and it was better if it should be disbanded and new police officers brought here. We are mercilessly suffering that we have to close businesses early to avoid arrest, yet no curfew has been ordered. If these police officers are looking for credentials through betrayal, then the government is not for the people who elected it.
The Police Commissioner, Major Gen. Ali, Kenya Magistrates and Judges, and Minister Michuki should come up with a better strategy to hunt criminals and not innocent citizens.

Here in New Mexico, the community's focus is largely on alternative medicines and coping techniques for cancer. I propose stories to this effect including:
1. Acutonics — A therapy that incorporates sound into realigning chakras and energy planes to help a patient better deal with or (in some cases) treat cancer.
2. A Beautiful Brain — This is an organization in New Mexico begun by a woman who survived fatal mold inhalation from Katrina by using and developing a breakthrough technology. Basically, a certified practitioner uses electromagnetic energy to map brain activity and literally teaches the brain how to re-map itself to optimum functioning. It has been shown in some cases to help with mental clarity, depression and even with help patients in vegitative states gain their speech back.
3. Acupuncture — acupuncture is a proven adjunct tool when used in conjunction with chemotherapy to combat nausea, depression as well as pain.
4. Herbal/Eastern medicine — Many New Mexicans suffering with cancer or experienced cancer relapses who have not responded to traditional cancer treatment have turned to other herbal or more natural alternatives, including Astragalus root, one of the most tested and successful treatments when used with other therapies.
